The anhinga and the prawn
I had been photographing this Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) in its fishing attempts for several minutes, when it finally caught a prawn. The crustacean gave the anhinga a good run for its money, escaping four times before the anhinga finally won the challenge and each time I was able to witness an exhilarating performance. The photograph was taken in the Everglades in Florida.

Green reflections
I was travelling along Loop Road in Florida's Everglades when I came to a point where there was a truly magical atmosphere. The light filtering through the leaves of the trees created spectacular reflections on the still waters of the marshes. I was just looking for the right place to take a landscape picture when I suddenly saw a young American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) lying on a trunk of wood in the middle of the water. I immediately ran to get the telephoto lens to capture the reptile as it remained perfectly still, surrounded only by the reflections in the water. Only later did I notice the dragonfly on its head.

Dance steps
I had gone to Cape Canaveral in Florida to watch the fourth-to-last launch of a shuttle and could not help myself: I had to go and take at least a couple of photographs at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The sun was just going down when a Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) began its classic "dance" in its search for food.
